How To Play Baccarat

Baccarat or Punto Banco as it is known is a game played at a separate area in a casino. The main reason why it is a great game is that it is very simple to play. People visiting casinos online or real gaming places usually head toward blackjack or slot machines because they are unfamiliar with the rules of Baccarat. You can easily learn this game and the rules are not very complicated.

Background Of The Game

Did you know that some believe Baccarat had its origins in 15th century’s elitist France and was considered the game of noble and rich people? Others believe Baccarat was conceptualized by an Italian, Lino Bussoli. The unchanged version of the game found its way to France and was played by the Nobles.

Now, with online casinos you can play this game at your fingertips. It is a game with high stakes and big sums. In casinos, Baccarat is played on a table that can accommodate up to 13 players. Each player’s position is designated by number. There are boxes for placing your bets for your player position.

In the full-scale version of the game, there is a 14-player Baccarat table where the dealer or the “callman” stands up and turns the cards face up after they have been dealt by the bettor. The dealer calls out the total points of each hand.

Online Versions

Now online casinos offer different versions of the game, including mini Baccarat that you can play for lower stakes. You can also play this game online for fun, without real money as well. In mini Baccarat, which is the online version, you don’t get to handle the cards.

In order to play Baccarat, you must learn the basics. Card values are no doubt automatically calculated online, but it is well worth learning.

The players place their bets by following the croupier’s actions or following the “streak” or “trend.” This often proves right for gaining a useful leverage. On the internet version of the game, the cards are re-shuffled after each round. This means that there is no card strategy that benefits you in the long run. You just need to spot the trends on time.

The Game

When you want to play Baccarat, you must learn the rules and strategies well. The first thing is the card values. The values are calculated according to face and are counted as points. But face cards such as King, Queen, Jack, and Tens are valued as Zero and have no value. The other cards are according to their face such as seven means seven points and so on.

There is a hand value system. To gauge the value of each hand, card points are added. Once the score reaches ten and up, the card value is calculated by subtracting ten from the total score. The remainder is declared as the value of the hand. If the total score is ten, the hand value is zero. If the total is 14, the hand value is four.

The hand consists of two cards. The third card may be drawn or not drawn depending on the initial results. The third card depends on the conditions of the game variants such as punto banco or mini baccarat. The rules for these are fixed and different from each other. Baccarat en banque is played with two player and one bank hand.

There are differences in betting and dealing rules among the different game variants. So, you should know and be aware of the rules of which variant you are playing. If you know the rules, your chances of winning are brighter.

Variants Of The Game

The main variants of Baccarat are as follows:

  • Chemin de fer

  • Baccarat en banque

  • Mini Baccarat

  • European Baccarat

  • Punto Banco.

In the game if you get a score of ten, it is equal to zero, and the highest score is nine. If you have two cards of seven and nine, it is not 16 but six as you have to minus ten from 16 because the value of ten is equal to zero. Only the card numbers retain their value as picture cards have a value of zero.

In Chemin de fer, the casino is not the banker and the bank rotates among the players. If the player does not want to be the banker in Chemin de fer, he can reject it. This game is played by at least two players. In Baccarat en banque the house or casino is the banker. In Punto banco the objective is to bet on the hand with the highest total. In European Baccarat the player can draw on five and the banker can decide whether a card is drawn or not. Mini baccarat is played exactly like Punto Banco but it is played on a smaller table and the game is faster. It is open to betters as the betting limits are lower.

Terms Used In The Game

The objective of the game is to achieve a total card hand of nine or get closer to the total value of the dealer.

  • Bankroll: The entire amount that is wagered on the game. Players aim for this to get bigger. The main idea is to decide to play or stand to get the best possible result.

  • The Dealer: The player who gives out the cards. In mini Baccarat the croupier does this.

  • Banker: The player or dealer in the game. He distributes the cards and notes the players’ progress carefully.

  • The Face Cards: These are the Jack, King, and Queen, which have a value of zero but help a strong hand.

  • Loss Wager: A bet against the bank.

Baccarat and mini baccarat are the games of chance. When you play Baccarat online, you don’t have to bet huge sums. You can’t really manipulate the odds, but the choices you make in the game matters. You can bet on the banker’s hand as this is the lowest house edge in the game. The odds for the banker winning are 44.61 percent. Another strategy is to avoid tie bets. If you take away all the complicated figures, you can see Baccarat is a game of chance and a true guessing game. When you know when to take off with your winnings, you can be assured of a true victory.
