Golden Nugget Buys Louisiana Casino Project

It was announced that Pinnacle Entertainment, Inc. Has made a deal to sell to the company that owns the Golden Nugget the under-construction hotel-casino complex that is located in Lake Charles, La.

This transaction was reported to satisfy some of the issues associated with a settlement that had been reached with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to avoid antitrust issues that might come up concerning the $2.8 billion buyout of the Las Vegas-based company.

The Golden Nugget is owned by Houston-based Landry’s Inc. It has been announced that it will pay for all the development costs that are spent on Ameristar Lake Charles, but only until the closing date of the sale. In addition, the Golden Nugget is said to assume all outstanding costs that are owed on the development at that particular time. There is also to be a $37 million credit applied to Golden Nugget. Ameristar has said that it has spent $213.9 million (as of June 30) on the project. Additionally, the project is said to have a budget of around $580 million.

Golden Nugget has already announced that it will complete the hotel and casino complex, located on a 242-acre site that is adjacent to the existing L’Auberge Lake Charles. However, the transaction still needs to get FTC approval as well as the approval of Louisiana gaming regulators. It should be noted that this project is the last of the available gaming licenses in Louisiana.

In addition to the above, Golden Nugget operates hotel and casinos in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Laughlin, and Biloxi, MS. In addition, the company operates over 500 national restaurant outlets; these are under nearly a dozen different brands.

In a recent statement, Tilman Fertitta, Landry’s Chief Executive Officer, said, “Due to our strong presence with all of our brands in the Texas and Louisiana markets, we are confident that we can grow gaming revenues in Lake Charles.”

For its part, Pinnacle has told the Missouri Gaming Commission that it wants to finalize an agreement in order to sell its Lumiere Place casino (located in downtown St. Louis). This sale, it has been reported, will satisfy the second concern that the FTC has with the overall Ameristar deal. Pinnacle has also said that it wants to close its purchase of Ameristar, a regional rival, before the end of August. The Missouri gaming regulators have already approved the deal. This gives the transaction the authorization from the state that it needs. With it, Pinnacle will be able to double its number of casinos to 16, located in nine states.

According to Pinnacle CEO Anthony Sanfilippo, this merger will result in savings of about $40 million. In addition, Pinnacle is said to acquire two smaller casinos located in the Nevada community of Jackpot, which is close to the Idaho border. These two smaller casinos will be part of the overall transaction.

Those involved in the deal report that they see considerable opportunity for both Pinnacle and Ameristar as their asset portfolios complement one another in many ways.

The Renovated Trump Marina Casino Opens As “Golden Nugget”

The old Trump Marina Casino Hotel of Atlantic City has been opened now as the Golden nugget with various signs of rebirth. The Vice president of marketing for Golden Nugget, Amy Chasey, has assured that nothing will go untouched. They have put banners saying “Watch the Transformation” and “Out with the old and in with the gold.” These banners were hoisted in the main casino lobby.

For this aging casino, the renovation is a part of $100 million facelift which was officially taken over by Landry’s Inc. at 6 am on May 24, Tuesday. The Casino Control Commission had approved the property’s sale the day before. The most noticeable and immediate change at the property is the transformation of the old Harborview restaurant of the casino into the upscale Chart House seafood restaurant.

The Remodeled Restaurant and Guest Rooms

A remodeled sky bridge connects separated parts of the casino property as the newer, brighter carpeting leads the way to the swanky restaurant. The carpenters gave the finishing touch to the remodeled restaurant for the grand opening held on May 26, Thursday. With a brand-new flooring, decorations, and new furniture for the restaurant, the redesign and upgrading was a massive task. The restaurant overlooks the Farley State marina.

Four of the gaming hall’s rooms in the casino’s new hotel rooms have been remodeled and are open to tour on the seventh floor. A new age theme of fabric and furniture matches the design of the hotel rooms. Bright, mixed designs in the rooms have replaced the older white and beige fabrics. Marble countertops are among few of the modern furniture and fixtures of the remodeled rooms. The only old thing that still remains in the hotel rooms is the black and gray striped carpets.

The four remodeled individual rooms will soon be available for booking with rates that will likely be slightly higher than the normal Trump marina Room. Other sections in the casino were in the middle of completion. They are erecting a wall which blocks off one side of the casino’s gaming floor. This section will become the new eatery called The Café.

Work Is Still Going On

Most casinos open up after remodeling only when whole work is done. But in the Golden Nugget, the work is still going on and this will be completed incrementally through the summer. This made the first day operations little messy, but amusing for many customers who loved watching the reinvention of the property on display. Some people did complain about the construction noise, but most of them watched with fascination as the older casino is in process of turning into a new one. Some customers remarked that it is kind of historic to watch the renovation happen.

The former “Disco” bar has been redecorated as red-laced lounge, now known as “The Red Room.” The employees’ names tags have been altered to “Golden Nugget.” Such big improvements as well as minor adjustments were noticed.

The ongoing work of renovation at Golden Nugget has attracted many reactions and statements from casino goers and prominent personalities. The President of Atlantic City Chamber, Joseph Kelly, commented “I think its good leadership to make sure that they’re showcasing the improvements as it goes along.”
